back in the usa

This happened:

York and I decided to go to Canada. Big mistake. Canada is the windiest state in the...its a windy country. We didn't like the wind because the wind brought rain, so we took a bus out of the country. Except, getting back into the USA is ridiculous. No bikes or pedestrians are allowed into Detroit. We didn't completely figure that out until we got to London, Canada (this is days after visiting Niagara Falls, an amazing place.) We packed up our bikes and tried to bring them with us. Greyhound could not help. We decided to take a taxi over the border to Detroit, where we would reassemble our bikes and ride to Livonia where Chris Meagher's parents live, whom we we had not met prior to arrival. While riding to their house, I had trouble with a wheel. Some strangers pulled over to help us out and talk about cycling. They were the happiest couple we've ever met. They are in their 70's and still touring from time to time. Vern and Connie took us to a local bike shop and eventually dropped York and me off at the Meagher's house. We introduced ourselves, then each family to each other. Imagine expecting two guys on a supposed bike adventure arriving at your house in a van with unexpected strangers. It was an incredible exchange. We took a day of rest in Livonia before spending an afternoon at the University of Michigan before spending tonight with Brian Meagher in Spring Arbor University, a few miles down the road.

We are planning on traveling to Chicago, arriving on Tuesday and spending a few days in the city before going on to Iowa and continuing to Nebraska. From there, we still are weighing our options. Do we continue through Colorado to Utah and Nevada? Or do we fly to Seattle and explore the Pacific Coast? We will let you know. My email is joshua.hardester@gmail.com.
